Rahul K. Dass is a Research Scientist II and Faculty at Georgia Tech, where his research develops AI coaches that foster deep understanding of procedural skills. He leads Ivy, a neurosymbolic AI coach developed at the Design Intelligence Lab (DILab) within the NSF-funded National AI Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education (AI-ALOE). Ivy grounds Generative AI in expert-authored Task-Method-Knowledge (TMK) skill models, so it can explain how and why a skill works. In his latest work, he presented an AI-assisted “text-to-model” methodology at the ACM Learning @ Scale 2026 conference to scale the construction of skill models, helping Ivy reach nearly 1,000 learners in a graduate AI course offered in Georgia Tech’s on-campus MS in CS and OMSCS programs. This work was featured in Georgia Tech’s research spotlight, and he shared lessons from deploying Ivy in a classroom in Georgia Tech’s Academic AI Playbook. Since joining Georgia Tech as a Postdoctoral Fellow in 2023, Rahul has mentored 41 researchers. He is also PI on an ITCL seed grant studying how learners use AI coaching, and his work appears in venues including AIED, AAAI, L@S, and EDM. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Miami in 2022 as a U-LINK Predoctoral Fellow for interdisciplinary research and interned as an Applied Scientist with Amazon’s AWS Responsible AI team. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking and exploring National and State Parks with his family.
